Emory Dawson
The Emory Dawson Scholarship is given by the Elks Club of Brunswick in honor of Emory Dawson. After suffering a spinal cord injury in the Vietnam War, Mr. Dawson came back to Glynn County and actively worked with and supported numerous humanitarian organizations. Mr. Dawson was also the president of the Student Council for two years and earned three associate degrees during his time at the college. The Emory Dawson Scholarship is awarded to students at the College of Coastal Georgia with disabilities who demonstrate strong academic performance; preference will be given to students seeking a bachelor’s degree from the College of Coastal Georgia. The selection for this scholarship is based upon input from the Director of Counseling and Disability Services and the Assistant Vice President for Student Life, with the final selection being made by the President of the College. Pending annual funding, a student may be eligible for up to two years of scholarship support; provided, however, that all eligibility requirements are met and a new application is submitted for each year.
