Southeastern Bank's Edward R. Gray, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Southeastern Bank has established the Southeastern Bank’s Edward R. Gray, Jr. Memorial scholarship to create opportunities for students attending the College of Coastal Georgia and to honor Mr. Gray.

Edward R. Gray, Jr. served as Chairman and CEO of Southeastern Bank (formerly The Darien Bank) from 1959 to his passing in 1997, at the age of 70. The Glynn County native had been a resident of Glynn and McIntosh counties most of his life. Mr. Gray was an ardent supporter of education. He understood what the importance of an educated workforce meant to community development, enhanced employment opportunities, and a better quality of life. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he was a certified public accountant, a board member of the Ashantilly Center, and a trustee of the Sapelo Island Research Foundation. He also served as a trustee and finance committee member of the Brunswick College Foundation, Inc. (now the College of Coastal Georgia Foundation).

Headquartered in Darien, Southeastern Bank is a $600 million community bank with 11 locations across coastal Georgia and northeast Florida. Under Ed Gray’s leadership, the Bank developed a long-standing history of providing exceptional customer service, supporting and investing in its communities, and focusing on safe, sound, and conservative banking principles to deliver value to its shareholders. Chartered as The Darien Bank on December 8, 1888, Southeastern Bank is one of the oldest banks in Georgia. With this scholarship, the Bank desires to honor Ed Gray’s legacy and further its mission to make a positive impact on the communities they serve.
