Teel Educational Scholarship

Dr. John Teel was appointed as the second president of Brunswick Junior College in 1968 and served in that capacity for 22 years before retiring in 1990 as the senior president in the University System of Georgia. Under Dr. Teel’s visionary leadership, the campus infrastructure doubled in size while student enrollment increased from 293 students in 1968 to over 1,300 in 1990. It was Dr. Teel’s vision of a four-year college in Brunswick, Ga. that was realized in 2009 with the establishment of the College of Coastal Georgia. Dr. Teel and his wife, Frances reside on St. Simons Island and remain active members of the Coastal Georgia community. The Teels contributed the lead gift to make this scholarship viable. This scholarship seeks to reward a deserving teacher candidate student.
