Robert and Susan Torras Scholarship

The Robert and Susan Torras Scholarship has been established by the Torras Foundation in honor of Robert (Bob) and Susan Torras.? Bob Torras, Sr is the son of the late F.J. Torras who was the city engineer that oversaw the construction of the Saint Simons Island causeway. After his death the causeway was named in his honor"F.J. Torras Causeway.Bob following in his father footsteps graduated from Glynn Academy and went on to pursue an engineering degree at Georgia Tech graduating in 1955 with a degree in Industrial Engineering.? Soon after graduating Bob joined the Air Force becoming a jet bomber pilot.

While stationed in Florida, he met and married Susan Marten. Susan who was originally from England had moved to the United States and pursued nursing, studying at Mississippi Southern College.? After leaving the military, Bob decided to go back to Georgia Tech and complete a second degree in Industrial Management. He later purchased the Grimland Manufacturing business in Marietta, and began building his business empire.? The Torras family returned to Glynn County in 1974.? Both Bob and Susan were long-time supports of the College of Coastal Georgia, and Susan was a passionate advocate and benefactor of the nursing program. Demonstrated Financial Need

Minimum 3.0 GPA ( high school or college)

First Preference: Graduate of a Glynn County High School (both public and private are considered)

Second Preference: Qualified Students from the four neighboring counties ( McIntosh, Camden, Wayne, and Brantley)

Third Preference: Georgia Resident

Additional Preference given to those pursuing degrees in: First to) School of Business & Public Management, Second to) School of Arts & Science, Third to) School of Nursing and Health Sciences
